28th Oct - Bangkok -> Tak

Up early this morning to the noise of a large flotilla of large barges being pulled up river by tug boats. There were dozens of them. Off to pick up the hire car. Toyota Hilux, it's a basic model, steel rims, wind down windows, no cruse etc, but the air con is cold and it's very comfortable, perfect for us. We drove right across central Bangkok, east to west and out to Kanchanaburi to see the Bridge over the River Kwai. Then back in the car and on to Tak, via a slight bit of getting lost. Covered 600km in 10 hours with stops. Busy day but we should now make it to Chiang Mia for about midday tomorrow.
